1. Who we are
Talktome.bio ("Talktome", "we", "us", or "our") operates the website at talktome.bio and related services (collectively, the "Service"), which lets creators publish a paid Q&A link and lets fans send paid questions to those creators.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at privacy@talktome.bio.
2. Information we collect
We collect three broad categories of information:
- Information you give us. Account details (email, display name, chosen slug, profile bio, avatar), the content of questions you send or answers you publish, and messages you send us via support or contact forms.
- Information from your use of the Service. Log data (IP address, browser type, device identifiers, referring URL), pages viewed, actions taken, and approximate location derived from IP.
- Information from third parties. If you sign in via a social provider, we receive basic profile information from that provider. If you make a payment, our payment processor shares limited transaction metadata with us (never full card numbers).
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Create and secure your account and authenticate you.
- Route paid questions from askers to creators, and process payouts to creators.
- Publish public answers on the creator's profile page (only when the creator toggles an answer public).
- Send transactional emails (receipts, notifications, security alerts).
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
4. Legal bases (EEA / UK users)
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: (a) performance of a contract with you, (b) our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Service and preventing fraud, (c) your consent for optional cookies and marketing, and (d) compliance with legal obligations.
5. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:
- Service providers who operate on our behalf (hosting, database, email delivery, analytics, payment processing) under contractual confidentiality and data-protection terms.
- The creator you send a question to, who receives the content of your question and the display name you provide.
- The public, only for content the creator explicitly toggles public on their profile.
- Authorities, when we are legally required to disclose information (e.g. valid subpoena, court order) or where necessary to protect rights, safety, or property.
- Successors, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this Policy.
6. Payments
Payments are processed by third-party payment processors. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers. We receive limited metadata (e.g. last four digits, payment status, amount) sufficient to display transaction history and issue payouts. The payment processor's own privacy policy governs how they handle card data.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We may also use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage of the Service. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may make parts of the Service unusable.
8. Data retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes (typically up to 7 years for financial records).
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal data.
- Delete your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Port your data to another service.
- Withdraw consent, where processing is based on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@talktome.bio.
10. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure; if we detect a breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
11. International transfers
We may transfer, store, and process your information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect your data during international transfers.
12. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will notify you by email or by prominent notice in the Service before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
